In humans it can be said that in addition to chewing food, teeth have the function of aesthetics which is very important in social relations. Teeth also are an aid in speech development as the correct pronunciation of some phonemes depends on them, along with the language.
Any adult human normally has 32 teeth as follows: sixteen in the upper jaw and sixteen in the lower jaw. The four incisors cut pieces of food not too hard and are located at the front. Joining them are the two sharp canines that serve to tear and puncture, having one on each side, thus four in total. The incisors and canines work together preparing a quantity of food to be swallowed. Also, the four premolars and six molars fulfill the functions of the cutting, crushing and grinding food.
The formation of all teeth, teeth development and growth of the craniofacial complex are interconnected, either during the prenatal or postnatal phases. At birth it is not normally for the teeth to be visible in the mouth, but already many teeth can be seen in various stages of development within the bone structure of the dental arches. The calcification of deciduous or milk teeth starts around the fourth month of pregnancy. Near the end of the sixth month all the baby teeth have already started their development. From six months to three years of age, all the human dentition temporary and teeth are named "milk" or deciduous teeth.
